What’s the next step you’re taking with your family’s healthy lifestyle?

We know obesity has been drastically rising in the U.S. over the last century.  We know kids have more opportunity to be sedentary now more than ever.  Childhood obesity is on the rise along with type 2 diabetes.  We spend 90% of the nation’s $3.5 trillion in annual health care expenditures for people with chronic health conditions.

Right now there are a lot of factors in this world we can’t control. But one thing we can make an impact on is our family. You can make family fitness a priority.  Start healthy lifestyle habits early and lead by example.  Here are a few things you can do:

  • Start incorporating physical activity while your kids are young.  Make it fun.
  • Lead by example. Kids learn by watching and observing.
  • Consistency is the key. Put physical activity in your daily routine. If someone doesn’t feel like getting after it, the family workout partner(s) will make sure they stick to the plan.
  • Create exercise and nutrition habits early on so it seems natural to workout, lift weights, run, eat foods that do not come in packages.

Working out with your kids accomplishes many things. Improved physical fitness, spending quality time with your family, and leading by example.
